“The Persistence of Pet To Threat” (Self-Directed)
My conceptual illustration delves into the “Pet to Threat” phenomenon, a term coined by Dr. Kecia M. Thomas to describe the workplace dynamic where women of colour transition from being celebrated (and even mentored) newcomers, to perceived threats, as they assert their competence and leadership.
I have tried to use the looming figures in the artwork to visualise this shift, highlighting the challenges women face in professional environments that initially embrace diversity, but later try to marginalise assertive voices as they rise through the ranks.
Ideal for editorial pieces on:
- workplace dynamics
- diversity and inclusion
- diversity in the workplace

“Researchers Claim They Have Sequenced the Entirety of the Human Genome…” (Self-Directed)
This conceptual illustration visualises the monumental achievement of completing the human genome sequence, a feat accomplished by the Telomere-to-Telomere (T2T) consortium in 2022.
I used the metaphor of a puzzle to symbolise the transition from fragmented genetic data to a comprehensive understanding of
human DNA.
Ideal for editorial pieces on:
- genomics
- scientific breakthroughs
- the evolution of genetic research

“Land of the Free” (Self-Directed)
Currently, women in the USA are being arrested and investigated for having a natural miscarriage. They are being treated as criminals and having their trauma and grief compounded for something completely out of their control.
Ideal for editorial pieces on:
- US Politics
- Women’s Rights
- Civil Rights
- Reproductive Rights

“Falling Through the Cracks” (Self-Directed)
With this illustration I used the combined visual metaphor of the striped business shirt and lined paper to address the systemic failures that lead individuals to be overlooked or neglected within societal structures.
“Falling through the cracks” highlights how bureaucratic inefficiencies, social stigmas, and institutional blind spots can result in people being forgotten or unsupported, particularly through- and post-pandemic.
Ideal for editorial pieces on:
- social justice
- mental health
- systemic reform
- business structures

“The Death of Childhood” (Self-Directed)
This illustration was created in response to the recent flurry of articles and television programs about the death of childhood innocence due to smartphone and internet access.
Access to inappropriate content at an early age has been causing major mental health problems and early maturation in our younger generations, as well as leaving them open to bullying, manipulation and abuse.
With this image I have tried to capture the premature end of innocent youth, highlighting how external factors can accelerate the transition from childhood to adulthood.
Ideal for editorial pieces on:
- children’s psychological development
- social influences on children
- the influence of technology on children
- the challenges facing today’s youth
- articles on psychology and social wellbeing

‘The Gap Between Public Opinion & Public Policy” (Self-directed)
This illustration invites viewers to explore the disconnect between the will of the people and the actions of policymakers. It visualises how public sentiment often diverges from legislative outcomes, highlighting the complexities of democratic representation. The artwork serves as a commentary on the challenges of aligning governance with the populace’s voice.
Ideal for editorial pieces on:
- political science
- civic engagement
- democratic processes.
